About the SayItCornell.com Team

Introducing SayItCornell.com

SayItCornell.com was launched on August 15, 2005 by Cornell resident Sheila Quinn Wilson who was later joined by a Team of contributors. Starting out with simply eight pages, SayItCornell.com has grown to 180+ in less than three years! Crazy perhaps, but dedicated for sure! Now a fully comprehensive and detailed website offering Markham resources, SayItCornell.com caters to businesses and residents alike. In Cornell, we embrace The New Urbanism model and strive to maximize its potential in areas of live, work, and play. In Markham, we are encompassing the broader elements of an ever-growing Town that binds us all.

Our purpose is for the betterment of our Town inclusive of all its neighbourhoods and communities. As we grow with Markham, we will expand again to bring you the best in Markham news, business, information, events, and networking with flair and genuine enthusiasm.

You will always find something new and innovative at SayItCornell.com! Often copied, never duplicated – it's been a long and tough road, but we are living it, loving it, and taking flight!

SayItCornell.com Turns 2
SAYITCORNELL.COM

August 15th marks the second anniversary of SayItCornell.com. In two short years, SayItCornell.com has formed a solid foothold in local media as a key resource for business, information, events, and recreation in Markham. Founded and maintained by Sheila Quinn Wilson of Cornell, Markham, the site focuses on outlining Markham as the best place to live, work, and play.

The core energy behind SayItCornell.com is permanently the passion of its founder and those in the community that are inspired to join its causes. Throughout its growth from zero to over 12,000 monthly visits, SayItCornell.com has continued to largely finance annual events such as the Cornell Garden Festival and the Easter Egg Hunt.

SayItCornell.com is an entrepreneurship solely supported by affordable online advertising. It is not a platform for political gain but partly an avenue to support worthy charities – Markham Food Bank, Thirst-For-Books, Shania's Sunflower of Hope, Markham Stouffville Hospital, D.R.E.A.M.S., amongst many others – and a vehicle that fully recognizes the need for business support and effective networking in communities like Cornell and Markham Village. "We have taken steps to improve conditions for these areas through activities, awareness, and annual events," Sheila describes and then smiles, knowing how often SayItCornell.com's efforts are quickly mirrored.

Sheila Wilson is also a small business owner in Markham – she runs a graphic design business. She is the mother of two energetic girls who offer creativity to SayItCornell.com through daily inspiration. Her oldest daughter, Siobhan, has her own monthly Markham Living column and inspired the birth of their fundraising campaign for the school library, Thirst-For-Books which raised more than $4,000.

Happy Anniversary, SayItCornell.com!

Sheila Quinn Wilson
OWNER / OPERATOR, FOUNDER, CREATIVE DIRECTOR

As a freelance graphics designer, Sheila has incorporated her various skills to start SayItCornell.com – an in-depth resource for Cornell and Markham, Ontario. A new resident to Markham just over a decade ago from Vancouver, BC and equipped with incredible research capabilities, Sheila felt there was a need to outline 'Markham Living' that would and could benefit others moving into the Town.

Today, she balances time with her young family, her small graphics business, and maintains SayItCornell.com.

Sheila is very proud of SayItCornell.com's accomplishments throughout and looks forward to seeing it all take further flight. Enjoy the site – this is for you!

RAISING PASSION >>

Our Spirited Daughter began as a high needs baby: always wanting us there, always active, always hungry, never wanting to sleep (might miss something!), always learning, always pushing the limits, and she is always excited and passionate about her current object of interest. But, paradoxically, she is also able to easily jump to the next thing in a cycle of energy that can leave her bored or aggravated. I have so much love and pride and marvel at my daughter’s obvious potential – if she could only let my wife and me have a few minutes of rest to recuperate!

If this is striking a chord with you at all, please stay tuned! We need each other, and I’m hoping to get lots of feedback.

Lee Nieman's blog about Perfect Parents don't exist

Lee Nieman
PERFECT PARENTS DON'T EXIST >>

I like to refer to myself as a 'new mom' but that's really not the case anymore. Jack was 3 – I am now considered a seasoned veteran, supposed to know it all, but I don't. How can I remember my Social Insurance Number when I can't state a good reason to my son not to eat ice cream at four in the afternoon?

At the end of the day, we all try to be the best parents we can be. We don’t make all the right choices and we’ve paid the price for some of our decisions. If you’d like to read my blog, I will attempt to regale you with my tales of this ‘no longer new' mom. Perhaps you will see yourself in these pages and maybe you’ll learn from my mistakes. Either way, I hope my stories make you smile and give you comfort, to know that you are not alone and that Perfect Parents simply don’t exist.
