The Markham Centaurs is an adult running club that has been in existence for more than 25 years. It was formed in 1980 out of interest by local runners wanting to train, educate, motivate, and share running experiences in a friendly environment. The club has a wide variety of abilities and ages – some are very elite and compete while others are beginners and would rather not. With approximately 60 members, each Saturday morning 20-30 runners join the weekly course. The Centaurs gather around 8:00am and begin running at 8:15am, starting from a different member's home each week. After the 45-75min route is completed, runners enjoy a light breakfast of coffee, juice, bagels, or fruit at the hosting member's home for that week. If this sounds interesting to you or you would like more information please contact us.

February 19, 2007 – The Legacy Run Planning Committee is likely working hard to outline the details of this event. So far, teams can register for the Run (PDF), sponsorship opportunities are online, and the Legacy Run/Walk Route Map (PDF) through Cornell Village has been made available.
Overview
The Markham Stouffville Hospital Legacy 5k Run/Walk is celebrating its 10th Anniversary on Sunday, April 29th, 2007.
In the past nine years, the Legacy 5k Run/Walk has raised a total of $940,000 for the hospital. This year, with your help, we look forward to surpassing our goal of $1 million dollars (within ten years).
“The MSH Legacy Event is Ontario’s second most popular non-profit event. We are proud of its popularity and strive each year to continue our growth,” says Refton Blair, Area Manager of the Running Room.
This event attracts families, school children, corporations, serious runners, not so serious runners and walkers. Last year, there were 2400 participants all running or walking for the same goal – to raise money for their local hospital. The funds have been allocated to cardiac equipment, the new MRI, and from 2005 to 2007, to the Maternal Child Unit & Dr. Bear program.
Once again, we look forward to the support of the Cornell residents and we hope that you will embrace this opportunity to show your community spirit and welcome participants to your neighborhood. We appreciate your patience with road closures. Make it your goal, to run/walk, raise pledges, support a student at Cornell P.S., or volunteer!
For more information, contact Sheri Evans at 905.472.7000 x6606 or by email.
For volunteer inquiries, please contact Bob Foster by email.

January 31, 2007 – Foot Orienteering is an endurance sport that involves mental strength. There is no marked route for the Orienteer – he or she must navigate with a detailed map and compass while running through terrains such as hills, ground surface, and obstacles. Other than requiring considerable body strength and agility, to be successful in Foot Orienteering, the athlete needs excellent map reading skills, absolute concentration, and an ability to make quick decisions while moving at top speed.
For more information about this extreme sport and upcoming races/events, please visit Ontario Orienteering and/or the Toronto Orienteering Club website.

January 27, 2007 – SayItCornell.com photographer Graeme Wilson was on location to capture the Markham Centaurs on this Saturday morning prior to their weekly run. A smaller-than-usual group due to the snowfall the previous night, it is a mixed club – males and females in a wide range of ages. The Centaurs run on Saturday mornings at 8am in Markham/Unionville on local streets, paths, or trails. To find out more about the club, see our profile on the Centaurs above.
