June 24, 2007 – Markham's biggest sports club, the Markham Soccer Club, faces a critical shortage of
full-size fields starting in 2008. With 3500 members and a growth of 12.5% in 2007,
the Club's highly successful programs require additional fields to replace fields
those that are being lost; and, to accommodate growth. The Town's current field
plans don't adequately address these needs for the east end of Markham. Read More >> |

The Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA) and the Angus Glen Golf Club have joined together again to present the 2007 Canadian Open. This tournament will mark the second occasion the golf facility has hosted Canada's most prestigious golf event. The 2007 event will highlight two important changes: the date and the course. The 2007 Canadian Open will be the first year the event is played in July rather than September. FIND OUT MORE ABOUT KITEBOARDING >>
December 24, 2006 – We were running errands on Christmas Eve, much like many other Markham residents, and during our travels we spotted a most unusual event that sparked yet another conversation about our weather this winter! "Where is the snow?" We can't speak for everyone, but we do have a hunch that the thought has crossed most people's minds in the last few weeks.
And when we saw it, those thoughts reverberated in our minds with some other "strange" questions, "Is that a k-kite? On Christmas EVE??" The sun was out and the wind was perfect for flying kites or, um, kiteboarding... so why not? So what if it was Christmas Eve?
We couldn't resist the temptation – and because nobody would believe us if we told them. We just had to pull over to the shoulder
and take a few snapshots. This is not something that you see on December 24th ever after all!
We had a few giggles and contemplated calling the kite mountainboard "surfer" over for a small chat but it was Christmas Eve to us and Markham was waiting for us to join her other last-minute shoppers...
Looking back, it would have been incredible just to have been out in the sun gliding through Christmas Eve without a stress in the world – for just ten minutes, sigh...
